Nat’l grid starts receiving more gas from Bakhrabad field

Comilla, Aug 19 (UNB) – A newly drilled well at Bakhrabad Gas Field on Monday started providing 15 million cubic feet of gas a day to the national grid.

 

Petrobangla Chairman Dr Hossain Mansur launched the gas supply process from the 9th well at the gas field.

Managing director of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) Md Shafiqur Rahman and managing director of Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (Bapex) Abdul Baki were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hossain Mansur expressed the hope they will be able to supply some 20 million cubic feet of gas to the national grid from this well.

BGFCL started drilling the 9th well of the gas field on May 19 this year.

Discovered by Pakistan Shell Oil Co. Ltd. in 1969, Bakhrabad Gas Field went into commercial gas production in 1984 and a total of 740.524 billion cubic feet of gas or 53.39 percent of the reserve has been extracted from the field as of June 30, 2013.

The total gas supply to the national grid from Bakhrabad Gas Field now stands at 45 million cubic feet a day.
