Nasim urges foreign friends to remain friends

Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim on Thursday urged foreign friends to remain as Bangladesh friends, not to turn into its masters.

“I would like to tell our foreign friends to remain as our friends. Don’t try to become masters. We’ve liberated the country by shedding our blood,” he said.

Nasim, also a former home minister, said this while addressing a discussion organised by Tanti League’s north and south units of Dhaka City at the National Press Club marking the National Mourning Day.

Pointing at the Election Commission, the ruling party leader said, “The Election commission is independent and strong. If needed, you’ll be given more powers, but we don’t need to hear anyone’s advice for no reason,” he said.

The AL leader urged the main opposition BNP to give up the politics of vengeance and part the company of Jamaat-Shibir and Hefajat. “If you (BNP) want to stay with people, just sever ties with Jamaat-Shibir and Hefajat. Or else, you’ll be dumped into the dustbin of history.”

Awami League central leader Abdus Sobhan Golap, among others, spoke at the programme held with Tanti League city unit (South) president Abdus Sattar in the chair.
