Mocking the opposition leader’s threat to shake the ruling party’s existence through a movement, Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim on Tuesday said no body can defeat Awami League in the field of movement.
“It won’t be possible to defeat Awami League by waging a movement. We were in the field of movement to establish the rights of people and will be there in the future, too,” he said.
Nasim said this while addressing a discussion meeting organised by Awami Juba League (South) marking the National Mourning Day at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.
At a programme on Monday, opposition leader Khaleda Zia warned that the ruling party’s existence will be at stake if it sticks to its guns to hold the next general election under a party administration.
“The Prime Minister yesterday (Sunday) talked tall that she won’t move even by a hair breadth from her stance. The hair will be moving in the blowing wind. People will wage such a windy movement the hair will get tussled puzzling you,” Khaleda said.
Nasim said, “It’s actually the wig that blows away, but original hair never does so. Your (Khaleda) birthday is fake one. So is your hair.”
Criticisng Khaleda Zia for celebrating her birthday on August 15, the day of National Mourning, Nasim said, “No discussion with those who celebrate birthday on the national mourning day. Khaleda Zia has blocked the way of discussion by celebrating her birthday on the day. People don’t like to cut cake on the day.”
In reply to Khaleda’s remarks that people have no confidence in Awami League, the ruling party leader said, “If you’ve confidence in people, then participate in the next polls. People will cast their votes in favour of you, if they have confidence in you.”
Juba League chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury and general secretary Harun-or-Rashid, among others, addressed the programme held with Juba League (South) president Ismail Chowdhury.
