The minister for finance, AMA Muhith, on Sunday ruled out appointment of a proposed commission on the country’s banking sector in the current fiscal year saying probe into scams in the banks are going on.
‘We will consider necessity of the commission later on’, he said during a pre-budget discussion with the Economic Reporters’ Association at his secretariat office.
In his budgetary proposal for the current fiscal, Muhith announced that a commission would be appointed on the banking sector which is hamstrung because of loan scams in the state-owned banks including Sonali, BASIC and Janata.
Muhith said a probe committee was now investigation into the latest theft of 100 million US dollar from the Bangladesh Bank.
The commitee which was appointed on March 15 has been asked to submit the interim report in 30 days and the full report in 75 days.
Muhith said they would consider the necessity of the proposed commission after getting the probe report.
