A Dhaka court has sent Bakhtiar Alam Rony to jail custody after he was produced in the court as his four-day police remand ended on Saturday.
Rony was put on police remand in a case filed against him on charge of shooting two men to death at capital’s New Eskaton in the early hours on 14 April.
Bakhtiar is a son of ruling Awami League MP Pinu Khan, also the general secretary of Women Awami League.
His lawyer Kazi Nazibullah appealed separately to the court for his bail and treatment after Detective Branch of police produced him in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor.
The magistrate fixed 16 June for hearing on the bail petition, and ordered the jail management for taking necessary measure for his treatment following the jail code.
Rony was taken on remand in a case was filed against him after he shot two men to death at New Eskaton, Dhaka, in the early hours on 14 April.
Investigation officer (IO) of the case sub-inspector Dipak Kumar Das of the detective branch (DB) confirmed the news to Prothom Alo.
The Toyota Prado model car from which Rony shot the two men to death is owned by her mother. Investigation officials also said the car will be seized within a day or two.
Sources related with the investigation said, Bakhtiar during the interrogation in remand admitted that he shot two men to death with his licensed gun from the car.
Bakhtiar also admitted that the car was brought by his mother without tax under the MP quota.
Bakhtiar said the incident took place when he along with his three friends was returning after a get together on 13 April.
Bakhtiar told the investigation officer that they went to a bar at Bangla Motor in that night, and then they went to Sonargaon Hotel. On their way back home, he gave Jahangir a lift to Moghbazar, and returned towards Bangla Motor. But his car stuck in a gridlock at Eskaton at about 1:45am that enraged him. Bakhtiar opened fire indiscriminately sitting beside the driver, and managed to flee the scene with the car.
He returned to his Dhanmondi house leaving Kamal at Hatirpool and his companion at another place.
DB officals said the Prado is an important evidence of the case, and an appeal has been submitted to the court seeking order to seize the car.
Bakhtiar is neither a politician or an established person, or even a businessman. He obtained arms lisence from the office of the deputy commissioner with the influence of his mother who is a parliament member.
