Monipur High School and Rajuk Uttara Model College in Dhaka retained their position as best schools in this year's primary terminal and Junior School Certificate (JSC) exams for the second time in a row.
Monipur High School achieved cent percent pass rate in the primary terminal exam taken by Grade-V students. A total of 1,563 students of the school out of 2,060 secured GPA 5.
Rajuk Uttara Model College achieved the cent percent pass rate in the JSC examination for class VIII students. Out of 389 students of the school, 327 got GPA 5.
In the Primary School Terminal examination, 14 among the top 20 schools are from Dhaka, while the rest are from Chittagong, Comilla, Rangpur and Khulna districts.
The four other schools of Dhaka that follow Monipur High School are National Ideal School, Viqarunnisa Noon School, Milestone Preparatory KG School and Motijheel Ideal School and College.
Comilla Modern School secured the seventh position like last year. Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College held the 13th place while Govt Coronation Secondary Girls' School of Khulna 15th.
Bangladesh Mohila Samity Girls High School, B N School and College and Dr Khastagir Govt Girls High School of Chittagong secured 17th, 18th and 19th positions in the primary school terminal exams.
The rankings were based on the number of registered students, number of GPA 5s, pass rate, and percentage of absence.
In the JSC examination, 12 among the top 20 schools are from Dhaka while the rest are from Mymensingh and Tangail districts.
Viqarunnisa Noon School secured the second position while Mymensingh Zilla School third, Mymensingh Girls Cadet College fourth and Motijheel Ideal School and College fifth.
The top 20 list has Vidyamayee Govt Girls High School of Mymensingh, Cantonment Public School and College in Ghatail of Tangail, Bindu Basini Govt Girls High School of Tangail, Bindu Basini Govt Boys High School of Tangail, Cantonment Public School of Mymensingh and Mirzapur Cadet College of Tangail in the 8th, 9th, 10th, 13th, 14th and 15th positions.
The government made the list of the top 20 institutions on the basis of five factors — rate of regular examinees, pass rate, number of GPA 5 achievers, number of students and average of GPA of the institution.
Farhad Hossain, principal of Monipur High School, told The Daily Star “The outstanding result has been achieved as students, teachers, guardians and governing body members have discharged their duties properly.”
Special classes helped the students to achieve the success, he added.
Rajuk Uttara Model College Principal Brig Gen Imamul Huda said, “Fruitful interaction among students, teachers, guardians and governing body members is the main reason behind such result of the school.”
“The students in my school complete their studies regularly,” he added.
Asked about the reason for the success of her school, Manju Ara Begum, principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, said “Creative question method is the main reason behind the improvement.”
“Students can get full marks, if they can write properly,” she added.
