Gonojagoron Moncho announces a number of protest programmes calling Sayedee’s verdict preplanned and biased
Two people have reportedly received injuries as two factions of Gonojagoron Moncho locked into a scuffle during a protest programme.
According to witnesses, the activists of Gonojagoron Moncho factions and another wing of the organisation, Chhatra Sangathan, carried out a joint rally at Shahbagh, protesting the SC verdict that commuted the death penalty of top Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee.
The rally ended around 6pm on Friday.
Soon after the rally, a faction of Gonojagoron Moncho led by Imran H Sarker tried to bring out a procession. However, they faced police obstruction.
At one stage of talks with the law enforcers, the two factions of Gonojagoron Moncho engaged in an altercation with each other, triggering a scuffle.
Later, Kamal Pasha group claimed that Muktijoddha Songsad Command President Mehedi Hasan received injuries during the scuffle while Imran’s group claimed that Imran H Sarker was injured.
Earlier on Thursday, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court commuted Sayedee’s punishment and sentenced him imprisonment until death.
Calling the verdict preplanned and biased, Gonojagoron Moncho announced a number of protest programmes.
