Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said that her government has undertaken a programme to build modern flat buildings at union and upazila levels with civic amenities as in urban areas to upgrade the living standard of rural people.
Hasina came up with the announcement while addressing a huge public rally at Charghat Upazila High School ground in Rahshahi organised by local Awami League.
The Prime Minister said she has directed the authorities concerned to revise the designs of the proposed flats.
The Awami League President said that the only aim in her life is to bring smile to the faces of the common people.
Hasina said the government is providing houses to the homeless through Ashrayan Project and giving collateral-free loan to sharecroppers to give a boost to food production and soft loan with 4 percent interest rate to the farmers for producing spices.
The Prime Minister said the government has created income-generation opportunity for the poor people in rural areas through ‘One House – One Farm’ programme and steps are underway to sell their products through cooperatives.
Besides, Hasina said agro-based small and medium size industries will be set up in the country to utilise local agricultural produces.
Poverty has been cut down to below 26 percent through the introduction of various allowances for the poor and distressed people, including the freedom fighters and the elderly people under the social safety net programme, she added.
Mentioning that the setting up of expatriate welfare bank, the Prime Minister said rural people now could take loan from the bank to mitigate their migration cost while going abroad.
Referring to her government’s success in attaining the capability of producing 10,000MW electricity, Hasina promised to reach the electricity to every household in various forms, including solar and wind power.
Highlighting the measures of her government to spread education, the Prime Minister said free textbooks are being provided up to secondary level, while 1.19 crore students are getting stipends to continue their studies.
She said healthcare services are being taken to the doorsteps of the common people through community clinics and the people are getting 28 types of free medicines.
Turing to Digital Bangladesh vision, Sheikh Hasina said internet connections has been taken to village level, and the people are getting 200 types of digital services, including consultation with expert physicians through the internet.
Besides, in order to create income generation facilities for the unemployed youths, Sheikh Hasina said Ecnec has approved a training project under which the rural youths would be trained up on internet-based programmes.
She hoped that the youth of the country after attaining the training could earn huge money from home and abroad sitting at home.
The Prime Minister also said a vocational course will be introduced from class six in every upazila so that the students could earn money on completion of their education.
Hasina urged the unemployed youths to take the advantage of collateral-free loan up to Tk 1 lakh from the Employment Bank and create self-employment opportunities.
