Medicine factory torched in Bagerhat Owner blames Jamaat-Shibir men for the attack

Criminals on Friday set fire to a pharmaceutical factory in Fakirhat upazila of Begerhat owned by a key organiser of Gonojagoron Mancha.

Police said a group of armed criminals numbering 40 to 50 attacked the factory of APC Pharmaceutical Limited at Lokpur in Fakirhat around 2:00am.

They vandalised furniture and windows of the factory and set fire to the drugs with gunpowder. Two fire-fighting units from Khulna and Bagerhat rushed there and doused the fire around 9:00am, reports our Khulna correspondent.

Dr Sheikh Baharul Alam, president of Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, Khulna and also the vice president of Bangladesh Medical Association blamed Jamaat-Shibir men for attacking his factory.

Masudul Haque, officer-in-charge of Fakirhat Police Station told The Daily Star that the attackers chanted slogans demanding death penalty to Dr Baharul and releasing Jamaat central leaders during the attack.

A case was filed with Fakirhat Police Station accusing 30 to 40 unnamed people.
