Former nayebe amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former Member of Parliament from Pabna-5 constituency Maulana Abdus Subhan is no more. He died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday noon.
He was 84.
He died around 2pm while undergoing treatment at DMCH, said Bacchu Mia, inspector of DMCH police outpost.
After being convicted in a case filed over war crime, he had been in Kashimpur prison. He was brought to DMCH on January 24 after he fell sick and had been undergoing treatment there.
On February 18, 2015, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Subhan to death in war crime case.
After pronouncement of the verdict, his son Nesar Ahmed Nannu said his father is innocent and war crimes charges against his father were brought out of political vengence.
Later on March 19 that year, Subhan filed an appeal with the Supreme Court challenging the death penalty.
Maulana Abdus Subhan was born on February 19, 1936 at Toilkundi village under Manikhati union of Sujanagar thana. Son of Sheikh Naimuddin, Subhan’s mother’s name is Nurani Begum.
Maulana Abdus Subhan was elected Member of Parliament five times from Pabna-5 constituency.
