The marketing of much-talked-about low-cost ‘Doel’-2102 notebook at Tk 10,000 has been kept suspended since it does not support the windows operating system used by most users, Parliament was told on Tuesday.
Replying to M Subid Ali Bhuiyan (Awami League-Comilla), Posts and Telecommunication Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju said spare parts of this model are not also available.
He said an expert committee has suggested that this model needs to be upgraded considering the prospect of Tablet PC.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the assembling and distribution programme of Doel laptop on October 11 last year.
After the inauguration, a limited number of Doel 2102 laptops was distributed.
Later, an expert committee was constituted to study production and marketing of Doel laptop in a bigger way. On the basis of the committee’s opinion, Raju said assembling and marketing of Doel 2102 model notebook was suspended.
However, the Minister said a proposal is under consideration to add Tablet PC program to the Telephone Shilpa Sangstha (TSS) in the near future.
