Many BNP candidates boycotted polls sensing defeat: HT Imam

Prime Minister’s adviser HT Imam on Thursday said that many BNP-supported candidates boycotted the second phase of upazila parishad polls sensing their defeat.

“The election boycott by BNP-backed candidates raises curiosity and question. Actually, they boycotted the polls sensing their sure defeat,” he said.

HT Imam said this while addressing a press conference at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi office in the city.

Claiming that the second phase polls were free and fair, the PM’s adviser accused BNP of trying to destabilise the law and order situation during the election.

Thirteen BNP-backed candidates boycotted the upazila elections in Barisal, Bhola, Chandpur, Noakhali, Munshiganj and Jessore districts on Thursday on various allegations.
