Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah on Saturday resumed his training in Mirpur shrugging off an injury fear just weeks before the ICC World Cup 2019 in UK.
The 33-year old cricketer batted for 45 minutes in the nets at National Cricket Academy but complained of no pain after the uninterrupted session.
‘I didn’t feel any pain while batting at the nets,’ Mahmudullah told reporters after his batting.
‘I faced all the available net bowlers – pacers and spinners and I didn’t feel uncomfortable to play the deliveries. I think I am doing well,’ he added.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board chief physician Debashis Chowdhury told New Age that Mahmudullah’s return to training was part of his rehab programme as he was asked only to play selective shots.
‘He did a limited training and played only some specific shots. He was trying to find out on which shots he was not feeling any discomfort,’ Debashis said.
‘It is not like that he has already started skill trainings. He is still in rest. He will do exercise and fitness trainings.
‘We have told him to play selective shots. His main training will start from next week. Today he made no complaint of pain,’ he added.
Mahmudullah received the injury about months ago at home but aggravated it during the first Test against New Zealand on their recent tour when he dived to the field twice.
An MRI test was conducted in New Zealand and the Bangladesh Cricket Board physicians had been waiting for the report before determining the healing process of the injury.
The report, which came last week revealed a grade-3 labrum tear on his shoulder leaving the batsman extremely worried with the World Cup beginning in UK on May 30.
Mahmudullah is a key member of Bangladesh one-day squad that will also play tri-series tournament in Ireland from May 5 to 17 before the World Cup.
