Mahbub, Khokon re-elected as BNP-backed panel wins SCBA polls

Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad, a lawyers’ platform backed by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance, won election to the Supreme Court Bar Association bagging nine of the 14 executive posts including president and secretary.
BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandker Mahbub Hossain and the party joint secretary general AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon were re-elected president and secretary respectively in the polls held on Sunday and Monday. The results were announced on early Tuesday.
Sammilita Ainjibi Samanway Parishad, lawyers platform backed by the ruling Awami League, won the rest five posts in the executive committee.
ASM Mokter Kabir Khan was elected vice-president, Shawkat Ara Begum Dulalee treasurer, Mazedul Islam Patwary Ujjal assistant secretary and Mirza Al Mahmood, Anowarul Islam Shaheen, Jasim Sarker and Shamima Sultana Dipti were elected executive members from Oikya Parishad.
Abud Khayer was elected vice-president, Delower Mostafa Chowdhury Modhu assistant secretary and AKM Daudur Rahman Mina, Amit Das Gupta and Mohiuddin Shamim were elected executive members from Samanway Parishad.
Khandker Mahbub Hossain defeated rival Yusuf Hossain Humayun by 197 votes while Mahbub Uddin Khokon defeated rival M Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehdi by 408 votes.
The AL-backed panel lost majority posts for consecutive six times since 2010-11.
A total of 3,529 voters out of 4,362 cast their votes to elect the 14-member new executive committee of the SCBA for 2015-16 period.
