Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged Dutch businesses to invest in Bangladesh, saying joint efforts by the two countries can change the lives of millions of people.
She made the call at a seminar with The Netherlands business community on Thursday as she focussed on trade and investment opportunities in Bangladesh.
At present, Dutch investors have put in $684 million in Bangladesh with 30 Dutch companies operating in the country.
“We welcome Dutch companies to invest in the emerging sectors,” she said.
Hasina named textiles, leather, jute, ceramics, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, agro-processing, plastic goods, light engineering and electronics, telecommunications and IT, power, energy, water and marine, and other infrastructure projects, among others, as emerging sectors.
The prime minister noted that Bangladesh had become a lower middle-income country and was working to become a developed country by 2041.
“As we strive to achieve the goals, I request the leaders of Dutch business and industry to partner with us in investment, trade, profit sharing and prosperity.
“Together we can bring a change in the life of millions of people,” she added.
