Leaders greet the people

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia have, in separate messages, greeted the people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Muslims in their tens of millions in Bangladesh will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday with the Shawwal moon sighted on Thursday.

The National Moon-Sighting Committee confirmed the viewing of the crescent on Thursday evening, as a month of fasting gave way to feasting, family reunions and festivities.

Abdul Hamid in his message said, “Eid builds the bond of joy, amity and unity among everyone. The poor and the rich stand together in a bond of unity and brotherhood on this day. The message of Eid-ul-Fitr is eternal for the building of a peaceful society.”

The President will exchange greetings with diplomats, Speaker, Supreme Court judges, ministers, distinguished personalities and top government and private sector officials at Bangabhaban in the morning.

The Prime Minister, in her message, urged everyone to follow the teachings of Eid-ul-Fitr in every aspects of life.

“Eid teaches a lesson of peace, cordiality and brotherhood. The bond of equality, amity and harmony bind all human beings together.”

Sheikh Hasina will trade Eid pleasantries with people from all walks of life at Ganabhaban at 9am, and with diplomats and judges at 11am.

Khaleda Zia, in her message said, “Eid–ul-Fitr gives the spirit of peace and equality leaving conflicts, bitterness and adversity behind. That’s why all Muslims should enjoy the occasion in harmony altogether.”

The BNP Chairperson has this time chosen the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre to exchange Eid greetings with distinguished personalities and ordinary people from 11am to 11:45am, and later with diplomats.
