A young housewife, said to be mentally ill, attempted to kill herself after strangulating her two children to death in the district town on Sunday afternoon.
Salma Begum, 35, wife of Farid Uddin, an officer of Bogra branch of City Bank Ltd, jumped before a moving bus at Banani in the town around 3pm.
Badly injured, she was taken to Bogra Mohammad Ali Hospital where she revealed that she has already killed her two children -– Upama, 7, and Tasnim, 3.
On information, Farid rushed to his residence in the Colony area only see their two children lying dead there.
Later, police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy. They also recovered a suicidal note written addressing the officer-in-charge.
The note reads: “I’m a mental patient. My husband is not responsible for the death of mine and my children. I along with my two children have left this world for good to get rid of all pains and agonies.”
Neighbour Jubayer Hasan said Farid has been living at the house for the last two and a half years and they hardly see his wife, Salma, meet anybody.
