A Sylhet court today framed 32 people in the murder case of Awami League leader and former finance minister SAMS Kibria.
Ex-state minister Lutfozzaman Babar, former Sylhet mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Huji leader Mufti Hannan are among those indicted.
Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Makbul Ahsan framed the charges after 14 of the accused were produced before the court by the Criminal Investigation Department, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.
Earlier, the charge framing has been deferred for nine times.
Of the 32 accused, 14 are now in jail while 8 got bail and rest 10 including former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s political adviser Harris Chowdhury are on the run.
Banned Harkat-ul-Jihad (Huji) kingpin Mufti Hannan, ex-Habiganj Municipality Mayor GK Gaus and Babar were among those present in the tribunal during indictment today.
Awami League leader and former finance minister SAMS Kibria and three others were killed in a grenade attack in Habiganj on January 27, 2005.
Earlier, police charged 35 people with the murder of SAMS Kibria.
Public Prosecutor Mejbauddin Chowdhury hoped that the trial of this case will be completed within 135 working days after indictment.
