‘Khaleda should resign’

He said this on Tuesday, a day after the BNP demanded the Prime Minister’s resignation as a step to solving the current crisis over the formation of a non-party government.

“The Leader of the Opposition has enjoyed all the benefits of Parliament but attended the sessions only for a few days. She should resign for ignoring parliament,” Nasim said.

The ministers submitted their resignation letters to the Prime Minister on Monday to kick start the formation of an all-party interim government to conduct polls.

BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi had said on Monday the nation was waiting for the Prime Minister’s resignation.

Awami League leader Nasim said, “Why should she resign? She is an elected Prime Minister. She has been elected with an absolute majority; there is no question of her resignation.”

Twarikat Foundation to contest polls

Bangladesh Twarikat Foundation will contest the 10th parliamentary polls.

The party’s chairman, Syed Nazibul Boshor Maijbhandari, announced this after a meeting on Tuesday with the 14-Party Grand Alliance led by the Awami-League.

Earlier, on Monday, a faction of the Jatiya Party, led by Anwar Hossain Manju, had also pledged its participation in the election.

The Jatiya Party is the first party, apart from the Awami-League-led Grand Alliance constituents, to make up its mind on joining the poll.

Nazibul, who was once an Awami League MP, said, “We are carrying on a movement against the violence unleashed by Jamaat-Shibir. We will contest the upcoming election under the all-party government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

Nasim said the Twarikat Foundation will be on the side of Grand Alliance to defeat the anarchy created by Jamaat-e-Islam and Hifazat-e-Islam.

The High Court declared Jamaat-e-Islami’s registration illegal following a writ petition filed by the Twaraikat Foundation.
