After nearly 12 years, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is going to formally sit with Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Thursday night to discuss the country’s latest political situation and their future course of action.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30pm at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan political office, her media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan told UNB on Wednesday.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and BDB secretary general Major (retd) Abdul Mannan, also a former BNP minister, will also be there at the meeting, he added.

BNP sources said they are likely to discuss various issues like current political situation, January 5 election, upazila polls, and the next parliamentary polls, and work out a possible line of action to force the government to quit paving the path for a fresh election.

According to the sources, Khaleda and B Chowdhury will also elaborately discuss as to how they can work in the days to come either jointly or being a member of the 19-party alliance.

This will be the first meting between Khaleda and B Chowdhury since he quit the presidency on June 2002, amid a row with the then ruling BNP leadership for what they said his unquestionable role.

After assuming office following a landslide victory in the eight parliamentary polls, BNP had made B Chowdhury, the party’s founding secretary-general, the country’s 16th President.

A close associate of BNP’s founder late president Ziaur Rahman, B Chowdhury floated Bikolpodhara Bangladesh with some mid-ranking BNP leaders in 2004, quitting BNP.

Khaleda, also the former premier, met the BDB chief in Iftar parties during Ramadan, also last year, but they did not have any formal meeting earlier.

She also visited B Chowdhury on February 18 at his Baridhara residence as the BDB chief was ill.
