Jatiya Party faction Chairman Kazi Zafar Ahmed, under treatment at United Hospital in Dhaka, has been transferred to the ICU.
His personal assistant Golam Mostafa told bdnews24.com he was stretchered from his cabin to the ICU around 6pm Thursday as his condition deteriorated.
The veteran leader is being treated by cardiologist Prof NAM Momenuzzaman of the hospital, Mostafa said.

Zafar was taken to the hospital on Tuesday after he collapsed in the bathroom.
Bikalpadhara Bangladesh Chairman and former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury and BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir went to visit him in the evening.
Zafar, who has been a JP leader for over three decades, was expelled by Chairman HM Ershad in November last year.
In January, he formed a party of the same name, with a faction that broke away from the main body, and joined the BNP-led alliance.
