Kamaruzzaman won’t seek clemency before review petition

The minister is creating confusions among people by giving false explanation of law, says Shishir Monir

Death row war criminal Mohammad Kamaruzzaman will not seek the president’s clemency before the submission of review petition against the Appellate Divsion verdict, says his counsel Shishir Monir.

He made the disclosure in a press conference on Sunday afternoon.

“The petition will be filed within 30-day from the date when the defence receives the full copy of the verdict. Kamaruzzaman will consider about the clemency after the dissolution of the petition,” lawyer Shishir Monir said.

He alleged that the law minister was making things up and giving explanation about the seven-day time-frame for seeking the president’s clemency.

“The minister is creating confusions among people by giving false explanation of law,” he added.

Earlier on Saturday, Law Minister Anisul Haq said the seven-day deadline to Kamaruzzaman for seeking the president’s clemency will end on Sunday.

Kamaruzzaman, the senior assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, was awarded death penalty for committing heinous crimes against humanity.
