The government on Wednesday decided to appoint ICT-2 chairman Justice ATM Fazle Kabir as the chairman of ICT-1, State Minister for Law Md Qamrul Islam said on Wednesday.

He also said Justice Obaidul Hasan, a judge of the High Court and also senior member of the International Crimes Tribunal-2, will be appointed as the ICT-2 chairman.

Qamrul also told The Daily Star that Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Miah, an additional judge of the High Court, will be appointed as a member of the ICT-2.

The state minister said the law ministry today (Wednesday) sent the proposal in this regard to President Zillur Rahman through the Prime Minister’s office for his approval.

The post of ICT-1 fell vacant after its Chairman Justice Md Nizamul Huq resigned on Tuesday amid controversy over the leak of his Skype conversation with an expatriate Bangladeshi legal expert.

Justice Huq mentioned “personal reasons” for his resignation.

Tribunal-1 is dealing with four cases — one each against former Jamaat chief Ghulam Azam, Jamaat chief Motiur Rahman Nizami, Nayeb-e-Ameer Delawar Hossain Sayedee and BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
