Law Minister Anisul Huq on Monday said the judiciary should not take any such step that might create anarchy in the country’s judicial system.
The Law Minister, however, said the government welcomes the steps taken by the court on its own motion over public interest cases but the judiciary should not cross its judicial jurisdiction.
He made the remark while addressing as the chief guest in the closing session of a seminar titled ‘Australia and Bangladesh: Sharing Experiences in Protection of Human Rights’ at Brac Centre Inn.
Asked whether his comment came in light of the Narayanganj seven-murder issue, Anisul Huq said, “I’ve made the comment in general keeping everything in mind.”
Following the seven-murder, Dr Kamal Hossain filed a writ petition and the court ordered the arrest of three the then Rab officials.
Commenting on the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the law Minister said the institution is functioning independently and the government is sincere to establish human rights.
He also said the government does not interfere in the NHRC activities and the government always remains sincere to implement the recommendations made by the NHRC.
Australian High Commissioner in Dhaka Greg Wilcock and Appellate Division Justice M Iman Ali were also present.
