An activist of Jubo league, youth wing of ruling Awami League, was beaten dead while he was collecting tolls from local businessmen in Comilla city on Tuesday.
Police arrested three people Tuesday morning in connection with the death.
Local people caught Dilip Chandra Biswas, 30, while he was collecting tolls from business establishments in Takurpara area of the city around 12:30am identifying him as a Jubo League leader, said Mahiuddin Mahamood, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station.
Dilip, a son of Haradhon Chandra Biswas of Thakurpara Baganbari area in the city, was rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
He succumbed to his injuries around 6:30am, the OC said.
Babul Chandra Biswas, brother of the victim, filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station against Fazlul Hoque, owner of an under-construction building in the area, and 14 others in the morning.
Babul alleged that Fazlul along with his son and some of his workers beat Dilip mercilessly over previous enmity.
Police arrested Fazlul, his car driver Akbar Hossain, 30, and guard Selim Mia, 25, following the case.
