Journos’ hunger strike Monday

A faction of Bangladesh Federal Union Journalists (BUFJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists will stage a token hunger strike on Monday demanding unconditional release of Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman.

The journalists will hold the four-hour programme in front of Jatiya Press Club in the capital around 10:00am.

BFUJ President Ruhul Amin Gazi announced the programme on the second day of a sit-in held by the faction of BUFJ and DUJ in front of the press club on Saturday demanding the same.

The journalists will continue their demonstration against Mahmudur’s arrest with a one-day break on Sunday on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh.

Detective Branch of police arrested Rahman on Thursday at his office at Karwan Bazar in the capital on charge of publishing reports on the alleged Skype conversation between former International Crimes Tribunal chairman Justice Md Nizamul Huq and an expatriate Bangladeshi legal expert, Ahmed Ziauddin, last year.
