Joining UZ polls BNP’s political defeat: Amu

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Thursday said that BNP is taking part in the ongoing upazila elections accepting its political defeat.

“BNP joining the ongoing upazila polls accepting its political defeat. This has proved that it’s possible to hold fair and neutral polls under Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

Amu, also an advisory council member of the ruling Awami League, said this while addressing the council of Motijheel, Shahjahanpur and Paltan units of Awami League at Mahbub Ali Auditorium at Shahjahanpur in the city.

The Awami League leader said BNP did not take part in the national election, as Khaleda had said her party would not take part in the polls under any party government. “The Prime Minister had offered BNP important ministries in the interim government, but they chose the path of violence instead of joining the polls. Now they’re taking part in the upazila polls.”

Pointing at his party leaders and activists, the minister said, “It’ll be wrong if we think BNP has returned to the democratic process by taking part in the upazila polls. They can hatch conspiracies in the future, too. So we need to remain aware about them.”

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya, among others, spoke at the programme held with Motijheel thana AL president Golam Ashraf in the chair.
