Join March for Democracy, no matter what: Khaleda

She urges people to remain there in the field until govt’s fall

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Friday urged the county’s people to make the ‘March for Democracy’ programme a success by their spontaneous participation in it braving all obstacles and barriers.

“I call upon the country’s people to converge in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on December 29 waiving our national flag in this month of our Liberation War victory. I hope, you’ll join the programme defying all obstacles and barriers,” Khaleda said in a video message.

The former premier also urged all to hold the programme at Nayapaltan despite the denial of permission by the police.

Khaleda also directed the party leaders and activists to make the programme a success under any circumstances, even if she cannot join it for any reason.

“I was always beside you and will do so in the future. You carry out the movement even if I can’t be present there on that day (Sunday). You’ll remain out there in the field until the fall of this regime,” she said pointing at her party leaders and activists.

In the one-and-a-half minute video message, the opposition leader also said, “I urge you all to say ‘no’ to the current regime’s farcical election and say ‘yes’ to democracy and election under a non-party government by taking part in the December 29 programme.”

Claiming that their victory is obvious, the BNP-led 18-party chief said, “We’d established democracy in the country. We’ll restore it again. The day is not far away…our victory is inevitable.”

The BNP chief sent the video message after the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) rejected the BNP application seeking permission to hold the programme in front of its Nayapaltan central office.

On Tuesday, Khaleda Zia at a press conference announced the ‘March for Democracy’ programme and urged people from all walks of life to march towards Dhaka carrying the national flag on Sunday to press home their demand for having the election under a non-party neutral administration.
