Jamaat leader killed in Jhenidah ‘gunfight’ with joint forces

A local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the members of joint forces at Naodapara in Kochandpur upazila here early Sunday .

 

The deceased was identified as Enamul Haq Biswas,45, finance affairs secretary of Jamaat Kotchandpur upazila unit and a teacher of Bolrampur High School.

 

Kotchandpur thana officer-in-charge Shajahan Ali said acting on secret information that a group of terrorists were holding a clandestine meeting near Naodapara High School joint forces members launched a drive in the area around 1:30 am.

 

As soon as the law enforcers reached the area, the terrorists opened fire on the members of joint forces, forcing them to retaliate that led to the gunfight.

 

After the gunfight, the law enforcers found bullet-hit body of Enamul lying on the ground, the OC added.

 

When he was taken to sadar hospital doctors declared him dead.

 

Three policemen were also injured in the shootout. One shutter gun and two bombs were recovered from the spot.
