Jamaat-e-Islami has called countrywide hartal for Thursday, Sunday, Monday in protest against the tribunal’s verdict that handed down death penalty to its Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami for war crimes.
Jamaat’s acting ameer Makbul Ahmed and acting secretary general Dr Shafiqur Rahman announced the hartal immediately after the verdict pronounced on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the statement, the hartal will be enforced from 6am on Thursday to 6am on Friday and from 6am on Sunday to 6am on Tuesday.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami has been sentenced to death for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim, chairman of the three-member International Crimes Tribunal 1, delivered the much-delayed verdict at 12:20pm on Wednesday.
Eight charges out of total 16, which include conspiracy, planning, complicity, incitement and active participation were proved, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 pronounced.
