Jamaat-e-Islami on Tuesday called a countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal for Wednesday.
This strike is to protest the final death penalty against Mir Quasem.
The hartal will be observed in a “peaceful manner” from 6:00am tomorrow, said a statement published on the party website immediately after the verdict on Tuesday.
Ambulance, fire-service and hospital vehicles, press and other emergency services will be out of the purview of the hartal, according to the website statement issued by Jamaat’s acting secretary general Shafiqur Rahman.
Mir Quasem, a central executive committee member of the party, is the victim of the government’s “conspiracy,” the statement said adding that their leader has been “deprived of justice, read the statement.
Earlier on Tuesday, a five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha dismissed a petition filed by Mir Quasem Ali seeking review of its earlier verdict that upheld his death penalty for his wartime crimes.
