Jagpa chief Shafiul released on bail

News - Jagpa chief Shafiul released on bail
President of Jatiya Ganatantrik Party Shafiul Alam Pradhan was released on bail from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail on Friday.
The Jagpa chief walked out of the prison around 11:15 am.
Hundreds of activists of the BNP-led 18-party, including Jagpa, received him at the jail gate.
The High Court on Wednesday granted Shafiul six months’ bail in two cases — one under the Speedy Trial Act and the other under the Explosive Substances Act — with Paltan Police Station in connection with March 11 violence in the city.
On March 11, police in a raid on BNP’s Nayapaltan central office arrested 157 of its leaders and workers, including acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The law enforcers launched the drive in the BNP office after 8-10 crude bombs went off near the BNP central office while Fakhrul was addressing a rally.
Besides, the chief of Jagpa, a component of the 18-party alliance, was arrested from in front of Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office on the night of March 11 while he was leaving for home after attending the alliance’s meeting.
Three of the arrested leaders — Mirza Fakhrul, Sadek Hossain Khoka and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury — were released the following day.
Police filed two cases against the opposition leaders and activists in this connection.
