A local Jubo League leader has built a Taj Mahal-shaped palanquin to present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a token for his loyalty to the ruling Awami League president.
M Ruhul Amin, president of ward-5 Jubo League under Nabinagar municipality, and a furniture trader in profession, made the palanquin with teak wood.
It took almost two years to complete the work costing Tk 17 lakh. The palanquin with the eye-catching designs was put on display for people on Thursday.
Talking to reporters, Ruhul said he has been cherishing the dream to present the palanquin shaped in Taj Mahal, a white marble mausoleum built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife Mumtaz Mahal, to Sheikh Hasina after being inspired by the PM’s love for the country and its people.
He started making the palanquin in December 2012 with the help of two carpenters.
The Jubo League leader wishes to reach the palanquin to the Prime Minister through local MP Faizur Rahman Badal.
