Senior journalist Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury has been appointed Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s Information Affairs Advisor.
The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant (media) Mahbubul Hoque Shakil confirmed Sobhan’s appointment to bdnews24.com.
A government order says he will report to the Awami League chief and act on her orders and advise.
This will be an honorary position, Iqbal Sobhan told bdnews24.com.
The journalist, who has led professional associations, contested in the 2008 elections for Awami League at Feni Sadar, but was defeated.
Iqbal Sobhan, a former editor of The Bangladesh Observer, is the President of a faction of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ). He was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the BSS.
He began his career as Staff Reporter at The Bangladesh Observer in 1972, rose to become its Editor until it folded up.
