Inu urges Khaleda to take stance against Jamaat

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Tuesday urged all, including opposition leader Khaleda Zia and the civil society, to take a strong stance against Jamaat-e-Islami through denouncing its violent activities.

“Jamaat has turned into a terrorist outfit. People should come forward to boycott the party and raise voice to have its politics banned,” he said while talking to journalists at the Secretariat.

“Jamaat’s days are numbered. Now it’s time to ban the politics of the militant party,” he said.

Inu came down heavily on BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for not criticising Jamaat’s violent activities across the country. “If Khaleda Zia doesn’t condemn Jamaat’s violent activities and issue statement denouncing its activities we’ll think that she is giving support to Jamaat.”

Expressing concern over violence during hartal unleashed by Jamaat men across the country, he said they attacked police, vandalised and torched vehicles during their 48-hour hartal that left three drivers dead.

They had called hartal protesting the Supreme Court verdict against Quader Mollah which is against law.

“Legal action will be taken against those who will side with Quader Mollah and other convicted war criminals,” he said.

Replying to a question, Inu said there is no relation between banning politics of Jamaat and election as it’s an administrative decision. “The decision will be taken against Jamaat with all preparations,” he added.
