In 2012, Subrata Roy, Chairman of the Indian business conglomerate, visited Bangladesh and had struck a deal with the government to invest in building modern housing estates for people belonging to the low-income group.
During his visit, he had said that Sahara India Pariwar was going to invest $100 to $125 million in its first project in Bangladesh.
Roy, with his roots in Bikrampur near Dhaka, had also hinted that his company could become the sponsor of the Bangladesh cricket team.
