Indian Naval ship replica handed over to Bangladesh Armed Forces

The visiting Indian Navy chief, RK Dhowan, on Thursday handed over a replica of Indian Naval ship INS Vikrant which took part in liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971 to the Armed Forces Division.
Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikrant had played a key role in enforcing the Naval Blockade on the then East Pakistan during the liberation war, said an ISPR release.
On behalf of the liberation war museum, its trustee members Ziauddin Tariq Ali and Hossain Akhtar Chowdhury have accepted the replica.
The INS Vikrant struck shipping in the Chittagong and Cox’s bazaar barbours sinking or incapacitating most ships. It also carried out air strikes targeting Cox’s Bazar, Khulna and port of Mongla. This contribution of INS Vikrant certainly had accelerated the victory of Bangladesh in 1971.
In the ceremony, principal staff officer of armed forces division Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq and director general of civil and military relations directorate Ashraful Hoq Chowdhury were present.
The defence adviser of India high commission (defence wing) Thimmaya was among other high officials present in the ceremony.
