A Bangladesh national was shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Dhantala border area of Baliadanga upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Nepal Chandra, 25, son of Upen Chandra of Fakirbhita village in the upazila.
BGB and local sources said the BSF members fired at Nepal when he was walking near pillar no. 391/5 in the area at dawn today, leaving him dead on the spot.
Locals found the body of Nepal lying 100 yards inside Indian territory.
Confirming the incident, Lt. Col Abu Bakkar Abu, commander of BGB Thakurgaon-30 Battalion, said Nepal was reported to be mentally ill. Possibly, the BSF killed him as he crossed the border through error.
The BGB commander said that they sent a letter to the BSF at noon today (Wednesday) condemning the incident and requesting to hold a flag meeting.
