India election: BJP to take 335 seats

Preliminary results and media projections at the climax of the six-week Indian election has shown that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its hardline leader Narendra Modi were on track for the country’s first parliamentary majority by a single party in 30 years.

As of 4pm Bangladesh time, Indian TV channel NDTV reports that the BJP will take 335 seats (including unofficially announced results), Congress will win 59 and others will secure 150 seats out of a total 543 seats.

Telengana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leads in Telenga, winning 65 out of 119 seats. Telegu Desam Party (TDP) has got 22 seats, Congress 21 and others got 11.

The TDP leads in Andhra, after winning 103 out of 175 seats. The YSR Congress (YSRC) has got 68, Congress one and others three seats.

The BJP leads overwhelmingly in Uttar Pradesh with 71 out of 80 seats. Samajwadi Party (SP) has got six and Congress got three seats.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP and Congress have secured one seat each.

The BJP leads in Assam. They have secured 10 out 14 seats. Congress has got one and others got three seats.

BJP leads in 29 seats out of 40 seats in Bihar. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has got 8 and Janata Dal (United) (JDU) has secured 3 seats.

The BJP has won in Chandigarh by securing one seat.

Out of the 11 seats in Chhattisgrah, the BJP has secured nine and congress got the rest.

The BJP has won one seat in Daman and Diu.

A landslide win was claimed by the BJP in Delhi, where the party won all the seven seats.

The BJP has won one seat in Dadar Nagar Haveli, while also winning the two seats in Goa.

Gujrat voted overwhelmingly in favour of the BJP, with the party winning all 26 seats in Modi’s home state.

Out of the 10 seats in Hariyana, the BJP has got seven seats, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) two and Congress has got one seat.

BJP has secured all the four seats in Himachal Pradesh.

In Jharkhand, BJP has got 12 and Congress secured two seats out of 14.

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leads in Jammu and Kashmir. They have secured three seats, BJP two, while others got one seat.

The BJP is leading in Karnataka. Out of the 28 seats, they have secured 18, Congress eight and JDS two.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) is leading in Kerala with 12 seats, while Left Democratic Front (LDF) has got eight other seats.

The BJP has also secured overwhelming majority in Maharashtra with 43 seats, Congress got the other five.

The two seats in Manipur were shared by candidates from Congress and others.

In the two seats of Meghalaya, the BJP and Congress won one each.

Congress is leading in Mizoram securing one seat.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has secured 27 seats and Congress got two seats.

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had a clean sweep in Odisha by securing 20 seats out of 21. The BJP got the other seat.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is leading in Punjab with six seats, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has got four, and Congress three out of 13 seats.

The BJP is leading in Rajasthan with 25 seats.

Out of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is leading with 36 seats, the BJP two and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has one seat.

In Tripura, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is leading with all the two seats.

The BJP is leading in Uttarkhand securing all the five seats.
