Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today (August 10) said the government is evaluating the possible impact of the recent hike in price of fuel on the livelihoods of common people.
“Necessary steps to this end will be taken in consultation with the high-ups of the government after the the assessment,” the minister told reporters at his secretariat office.
A price hike in fuel will cause a rise in the price of essentials, affecting the country’s low-income group of people, he said.
“The government has been working to resolve the problems of the poor section of people and it will continue to do so. Steps will be taken to provide relief to the poor and low-income group of people,” Mustafa Kamal also said, adding that the government measures will focus on protecting the poor from possible inflation.
The decision in this regard would be taken upon discussion with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the minister said.
The finance minister also said the US dollar rate is now unstable across the world.
“We are trying to keep the forex market stable and hopefully it will come to normalcy,” he added.
