Imam killed, guard found dead in Barisal

Barisal

Two people – one Imam and a night guard — were killed in separate incidents in the district on Friday and Thursday night.

Police said Hafez Parvez Mahmud, 31, Imam of Uttar Dhamura Jam-e-Masjid and son of Maulana Abul Hashem of Dhamura village in Uzirpur upazila was believed to have been killed by suspected drug addicts.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Uzirpur Police Station Anwar Hossain said they after being informed by locals recovered the body of the Imam from a Khanqah — a place for spiritual gathering — of Maijbhandari on Thursday night.

The OC said Hafez Parvez was always vocal against drug abuse, drug peddling and immoral activities of the Khanqah. He used to speak against the vice in his sermons.

Aggrieved by his active role against the drug abuse, a group of drug peddlers might have strangulated him to death at the Khanqah, Anwar suspected.

Abdullah, brother of the victim, lodged a murder case accusing Mithun Mia, a local drug addict and a follower of Maijbhandari, in this connection.

Police sent the body to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (BSMCH) morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Barisal Airport police recovered the body of a night guard of a fish enclosure from a ditch in Sona Miar Pol area in the city about 11:30am on Friday.

Shahidullah, Airport Police Station in charge, said the victim was identified as Sumon Nath, 29, night a guard of a the fish enclosure.

Police filed a UD case with the police station and sent the body to BSMCH for postmortem.

  1. Hasina government, vehemently anti-Islamic, apostates & bloggers lover MUST resign at once. She cannot get away with the criminal responsibility as head of the government while her pests, the well armed chatra league thugs and drug addicts, as has been seen in shahbag round about keep on killing the Islamic religious leaders because the Imams have declared a crusade against drug to save our society.
