Terming the formation of Inter National Crimes Tribunals politically motivated, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami MP ANM Shamsul Islam on Sunday told parliament that the government is trying to kill his party’s top leaders using the judiciary in the name of trial of crimes against humanity.

“The government in the name of so-called trial of crimes against humanity is plotting to kill the top leaders of Jamaat, including Delwar Hossain Saydee and Motiur Rahman Nizami, using the judiciary,” he told the House while taking part in general discussion on the proposed budget.

Shamsul Islam alleged that the tribunal illegally meted out death sentence to Delwar Hossain Saydee for the crimes of a notorious Delwar Shikder Razakar of Pirojpur.

The Jamaat MP claimed that the prosecution could not provide any document regarding Saydee’s involvement in crimes against humanity.

Shamsul Islam also alleged that the tribunals also falsely punished the other Jamaat leaders on charge of committing crimes against humanity.

Questioning the transparency of the tribunals, he said the trial is politically motivated.

The Jamaat MP also alleged that the government has revived a 42-year-old settled issue like war crimes to weaken the opposition alliance and make the country free from Islamic leadership.

He urged the government to dissolve the ‘questionable and politically motivated tribunals’ and demanded the release of the “innocent” Jamaat leaders facing the trial on charge of committing crimes against humanity.

“Form another International Crime Tribunal under the supervision of the United Nations to ensure the trial of real war criminals,” Shamsul Islam told the House.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury reminded Shasmul Islam twice not to speak about sub-judice matters, but he continued his speech defying her warning.

Mentioning that the current regime suffers from one kind of Islam phobia, he said the government declared a war against Islam followers by launching a crackdown and mass killing drive on the Hefajat activists on May 5 at Shapla Chattar.

The Jamaat MP alleged that the government has long been not allowing his party to hold any rally or political programme for the last three years and locked their central office illegally.

He questioned why his party has been deprived of its constitutional rights. Is Jamaat a banned party?”
