Popular writer Humayun Ahmed was taken to Bellevue Hospital in New York on Friday for a fresh surgery as he was experiencing pain from last two days.
Family sources said he could not sleep the whole night as he felt pain in his body from Wednesday evening (New York time).
He was first taken to emergency department of Jamaica Hospital where conducted different tests to find out the causes of pain.
Later, he was shifted to Bellevue Hospital due to under care of the same team of doctors who conducted the surgery.
On June 12, a successful six-hour surgical operation was done on him at the hospital and three tumors were removed.
Among others, his wife, two sons and a host of well wishers and friends were present at hospital.
Before the surgery, he completed 12 cycles of chemotherapy at the Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), a cancer treatment and research institution.
He came to Bangladesh for two weeks in last month to meet with his friends and relatives.
Humayun went to New York for his cancer treatment on September 14 last year after he was diagnosed with colon cancer during a routine checkup in Singapore
He has been staying at a rented flat at Queens with his wife Meher Afroz Shaon and two sons since September.
Born in Mymensingh in 1948, Humayun did his graduation from Dhaka University and later joined the university as a lecturer of chemistry but retired to become a fulltime writer and filmmaker.
