Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh has warned of enforcing a nationwide shutdown for Thursday, if the government does not arrest former minister Abdul Latif Siddique by Wednesday.

The decision was taken at the central committee meeting of the Islamic platform at Hathazai of Chittagong on Monday afternoon.

Azizul Haque Islamabadi, organising secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam, confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the decision.

He said they would also stage nationwide demonstrations  on Tuesday, demanding the arrest of Latif Siddique.

Earlier, Latif returned to country on Sunday night amid warrants for his arrest.

Upon his arrival at the airport’s VIP lounge he was kept under surveillance of immigration police.

Later, the police let him go around 9:30pm.

A total of four arrest warrants have so far been issued by different Dhaka courts against Latif Siddique for hurting the countrymen’s religious sentiment by making controversial remarks on hajj and Tablig last month during a programme in New York.
