Leaders of Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh on Tuesday demanded removal and punishment of Islamic Foundation Director General Shamim Mohammad Afzal for ‘destroying’ the country’s religious harmony, social peace and discipline.
Hefajat Ameer Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi, its secretary general Junaid Babunagari and 14 other central leaders made the demand in a joint statement.
Branding Shamim as a ‘traitor and paid local agent’ of the Jewish and imperialistic group’, they said he cannot remain as the DG of a religious organisation like Islamic Foundation as he published book resorting to audacious falsehood that Qawmi madrasahs produce militants and Taliban.
“We don’t have words to condemn this. In fact, Shamim Afzal is a patron of militancy and spy of a foreign country,” the statement said.
