Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Monday said Hefajat-e-Islam has been working as a B team of Jamaat-e-Islami as it is not a religious party.
“A Muslim can’t believe that any religion-based party would burn the copies of holy Quran and Islamic books on the pretext of religion,” he said addressing an emergency press briefing at the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office.
“Their anarchy wouldn’t be tolerated any more. The way they were ousted from Mothijheel last night (Sunday night), the same way they’ll be resisted everywhere,” the AL leader said.
Hanif, also a special assistant to the Prime Minister, alleged that the Dhaka siege programme of Hefajat and 48-hour deadline given by opposition leader Khaleda Zia all are planned. “Hefajat wouldn’t have been able to carry out massacre had BNP had not instigated them. So, the opposition leader can’t avert the responsibility of the violence.”
The ruling party leader said when jewelry shops at Baitul Mukarram were looted and shops on footpaths were burnt in Paltan area, Khaleda urged her party leaders and workers to stand beside Hefajat men, not beside the affected people.
“With this Khaleda instigated the terrorist activities of Hefajat, which is very unfortunate for the nation,” he said.
At the briefing, Hanif also demanded capital punishment of Hefajat men for burning the copies of Quran.
