HC asks govt to probe N’ganj killing

The bench has also asked to include officials of CID, DB of police in the committee

The High Court has asked the government to investigate the abduction and killing incident of seven people in Narayanganj.

A High Court bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore has passed the order on Monday.

The HC has directed the government to form a seven-member committee headed by an additional secretary of public administration ministry to probe the killing incident of Narayanganj.

The bench has also asked to include the officials of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Detective Branch (DB) of police in the committee.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has been asked to provide security to the witnesses of the seven murder cases.

Earlier in the day, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) had formed a four-member committee to probe an allegation against some personnel from RAB 11 of killing Narayanganj City Corporation panel Mayor Nazrul Islam at Tk6 crore.

The dead bodies of Nazrul Islam and his four associates and lawyer Chandan Sarkar and his driver were found in River Shitalakshya two days after they went missing.

Meanwhile, RAB 11 commanding officer, Narayanganj district superintendent of police and several other officials of RAB, police and the district administrations have been withdrawn.

Shahidul Islam, the father-in-law of deceased panel mayor Nazrul Islam, publicly alleged that Nazrul was abducted to death by some RAB personnel at Tk6 crore taken from another councillor Nur Hossain, prime accused in the killing, and Siddhirganj upazila unit Awami League general secretary Yiasin.

He made the allegation while talking to journalists at Narayanganj Rifles Club on Sunday.

“Nazrul and his associates had been kidnapped in two cars in the afternoon on May 27 while another car of RAB 11 had remained present at the abduction scene since the morning,” Shahidul Islam mentioned.

He also claimed lawmaker Shamim Osman had been made aware of it immediately after the incident took place.

He said they had tried to file a case accusing 13 people, including RAB 11 chief Tareq Sayeed, its other officials Major Jahangir and Major Rana, councillor Nur Hossain and AL leader Yiasin, however they had to drop the names of six RAB 11 officials due to the objection of Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Syed Nurul Islam.
