“The Prime Minister will be made accountable for the BDR carnage. She (Hasina) thinks she’ll hang onto power anyhow or flee the country… we heard many things. We have all the documents of your corruption… we also have the documents of all the killings. Where’ll you (Hasina) escape? You’ll be traced wherever you’ll be staying in the world. You’ll have to stand on the dock,” she said.
Khaleda said this while addressing a mourning rally at Shalaipur High School of Panchbibi upazila in Joypurhat.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia who is on a two-day tour of Bogra and Joypurhat reached Bogra town on Saturday night to visit the violence-hit areas in the districts and meet the families of the victims.
Terming the incumbent government autocratic and killer one, Khaleda said that their hands are stained with blood as they have failed to ensure the security of public life and property. “The sooner the government will quit, the better it is for the nation.”
At the rally, Khaleda announced that her party would announce the next course of action tomorrow (Monday) and warned the government of dire consequences if it resorts to repressive acts any more. “A situation will be created to force them out. If necessary, we’ll announce Dhaka Chalo (Go to Dhaka) programme also,” Khaleda said.
The BNP chief also came down hard on the premier for her silence over the killing of Bangladeshi people by Indian BSF. “You’ve killed the people of the country like birds. And you don’t dare to protest when BSF kill Bangladeshis along the border.”
Referring to a recent incidents of torture by BSF by intruding into Bangladesh territory, Khaleda questioned: ”Where does the courage come from? Where is the government?”
Khaleda urged the law enforcement agencies not to kill people any more and said the government would not able to take any action against them as the government has lost the soil from beneath its feet.
Mentioning that the Awami League government led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had killed 40,000 people during its 1972-1975 rule, the former premier urged the young generation to read more about the brutalities of the Awami League at that time. “The present Awami League government has started doing the thing as they did during 1972-75.”
Accusing the government of reneging on its election pledges, Khaleda said, “This is a liar government. They didn’t do anything in the last four years, but showing people the dream of development just to assume power again.”
Branding the government as a failed one, Khaleda said, “The days of the government are numbered. It’ll fall down with a slight push now.”
About Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Khaleda said they are not discharging their duties properly in the border area, but killing people during hartals. “When we were in government, Awami League had called hartal for 173 days, but we didn’t fire shots on anyone.”
Terming the month of March as the month of Liberation War, Khaleda said the government is killing people in this month, too. “But the current regime won’t able to remain in power by killing people. They’ll have to quit and take part in the next polls by creating a level playing filed… the level playing field is to restore caretaker government. The government is unwilling to quit for its misdeeds. So, we need to push them out through a tough movement.”
“I urge people to move to paddy sheef (the election symbol of BNP) from the sinking boat (the election symbol of Awami League). You’ll be benefited with that,” she added.
On neighboruing India, Khaleda said, “As they (India) brought Awami League to power illegally, now they’re destroying our country in a planned way.”
At the rally, Khaleda provided Tk one lakh to the families of each of the four victims killed in the recent violence in Joypurhat.
