Hasina selling Bangladesh to India: Khaleda

Khaleda also said the people ‘will rise against such mischief’ at a programme at her office in Gulshan on Saturday.

Her comments came when the prime minister is in India on a four-day visit. As many as 22 agreements and MoUs, including some of those relating to defence, were signed between the two countries in New Delhi on Saturday.

The BNP has been critical of the defence deals, alleging that the government is exposing Bangladesh’s defence system to the neighbour through those deals. The party also criticised the government for the ‘failure’ to have the Teesta water sharing deal signed during the visit.

“Hasina dreams of remaining in power for life. She has done many things for this. She kept nothing for the country; sold everything,” the BNP chief said.

“It seems that she will sell the rest of the country,” she added.

She also warned the prime minister by saying: “The world history says no one could get away after selling a country. Those who have bought the country won’t come to save her when the people rise.”

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal organised the programme where slain leader Nurul Alam Nuru’s wife and children came to meet Khaleda. The BNP chief handed the family some money at the programme.

Nuru was allegedly picked up by plainclothesmen from his residence in Chittagong on Mar 30. His body was found in Raujan the next day.
