Holding the Prime Minister responsible for the incidents of enforced disappearance and abduction, President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury has warned that Sheikh Hasina will be have to be accountable for these one day.

“It’s pointless to blame Rab and police forces for disappearances and secrete killings as they are carrying out these at the behest of the government,” he said on Sunday.

Addressing a discussion, the BDB chief further said, “Rab and police are the part of the government. So, the Prime Minister, as the head of the government, can’t evade the responsibility for what Rab and police are committing. She must be accountable for these things one day.”

Bangladesh Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the ’International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearance’.

Relatives of some victims of enforced disappearances were also present at the programme.

Assuring the victims’ families of ensuring justice, B Chowdhury said all the perpetrators of the forced disappearances will be put on trial if a democratic government is installed in the country.

“Those who are responsible for the forced disappearances will be identified and tried through fair investigations forming a national committee immediate after a democratic government assumes office,” he added.

B Chowdhury, also a former President, demanded the government disband Rab, saying the enforced disappearances will not be stopped as long as Rab will remain effective.

There is no democracy in the country, he said, adding that the current undemocratic regime is making various laws and polices to cling to power.

Acting convener of Bangladesh Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad Ruhul Amin Gazi, former chief election commissioner Abdur Rauf, Peshajibi Parishad leader Shawkat Mahmud and its member MA Aziz also spoke at the programme.
